Seahawks Beat Jets 40-3 In Rare Blow Out Win

It was the perfect tonic for a team in need of a confidence booster. A winless New York Jets team on a death march to the end of the season making a stop over in Lumen Field. The result was a swagger building 40-3 win by the Seattle Seahawks. The Hawks went to back to basics. A bruising , punish running game accompanied by rock solid defense and an MVP performance by quarterback Russell Wilson

RUSH GAME IS BACK During the week head coach Pete Carroll alluded that running back Chris Carson reached his pitch count against the New York Giants his second game back after missing four games due to a foot injury. Against the Jets Carson showed he is close to full health with 12 carries for 76 and a touchdown in three quarters.

Carson’s running mate Carlos Hyde also working his way to full health finished the day with 15 carries for 66 yards The Seahawks finished with 174 rushing yards, 238 passing for whopping 410 total yards. More importantly the offense was 6 of 11 on third down. A productive third down rate a was goal of the Seahawks going into Sundays game.

MVP LIKE DAY

With a solid ground game quarterback Russell Wilson had another MVP like day completing 21 of 27 passes for 206 yards four touchdowns and one interception for a passer rating of 122. The four touchdowns by Wilson brought his season total to 36 for the season which is a career and franchise record. Wilson threw the ball to nine different receivers with best buddy DK Metcalf leading the charge.

Metcalf had six receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown. Tyler Lockett had five receptions for 52 yards. More amazing was that most of the offensive numbers were accomplished in just three quarters of play. Wilson and a majority of the starters sat out the fourth quarter giving an opportunity for back ups to get some game action.

Wilson also became the first player in NFL history to have a winning record as a full-time starting QB in each of his first 9 seasons.

SEAHAWKS DEFENSE WAS ROCK SOLID

Despite the absence of DE Carlos Dunlap the Seahawks defense played it’s most complete game of the season. The Seahawks defense limited the Jets offense to just 69 rushing yards, 116 passing yards for a total of 185 yards. The Jets only points of the day came on the games opening drive when the Jets offense scored on a 45 yard field goal by Sergio Castillo.For the first time this season the Seahawks defense kept a team from entering it’s endzone. For as good as they were, the Seahawks defense could have racked up some nice statics. Seahawks defenders hand their hands on three passes that ended up falling to the ground. The Hawks defense was able to cause one fumble which the offense converted to three points.

STELLA DAY FACING FORMER TEAMMATES

Safety Jamal Adams recorded a sack against the Jets bringing his season total to 8.5 and setting the NFL record for most sacks by a defensive back. There was a lot of speculation, predictions and downright hearsay as to how Adams would behavior against the Jets. Much credit has to be given to Adams for showing respect to his old organization on Sunday.
