A WIN FOR THE AGES

The Seattle Seahawk are in the playoffs and not very many saw this coming. The Seahawks made the playoffs in the most improbable way. In order for the Hawks to make the playoffs two things had to happen. The first was that the Hawks had to beat the Bobby Wagner Los Angeles Rams. You remember Wagner, the greatest defensive player in the team’s history ? Was released by the Seahawks and signed with the Rams. Sunday’s game was the prodigal son returns affair. Before the game many a fan cheered for their beloved hero regardless of the color of his jersey. Sentiments aside the Seahawks mustered enough will to pull off a thrilling 19-16 overtime win. That was one part of the equation for the Hawks to make the playoffs. Part two was for the Detroit Lions to upset the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay. Beating Green Bay in Green Bay when you have nothing to play for is a tough task. Green Bay on the other hand could secure a playoff berth if they beat the Lions. While it was not mission impossible it was mission improbable for the Lions. Well good god Miss Molly. The Detroit Lions upset the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay 20 -16. So needless to say, Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll was all smiles when he met with the media to discuss his teams march into the playoffs.

“Okay. Let's keep playing football. It's a really great reward for our guys who have been working so hard. You've heard us talk about it, to get this opportunity to keep going. And we're all excited about the fact the way the day turned out yesterday. Just so sunk into being Lions fans. We love the Lions. Coach Campbell did a great job with his crew. They played a fantastic football game to get the win to give us the chance. We want to try to do something with it. Unfortunately, we're playing the Niners and they're loaded. And they're loaded and healthy and on a roll and about as hot as you can possibly get. And doing it in really commanding fashion”

Speaking of playoffs. The Garfield Bulldogs Boys and Girls Basketball teams are smashing and grabbing their way through the season. Both squads are undefeated. Last Friday the Boys team’s repelled a stubborn Odea Irish team 65-64 in standing room only gym. The Girls team? Yea you know the two time defending State Champs and arguable the greatest girls basketball team in state history. Yes the greatest . No other team in the History of AA basketball has won back to back state champs and them girls are working on a three peat. Last Friday they pulled a can of whoop ass on an upset minded Holy Names squad 69-45.
